Push notifications

A push notification is a short message your phone shows even when the app is closed. Your phone gives the app a delivery token; we send the message to Apple or Google, who deliver it to that token. We only ever have the token while the app is installed and notifications are allowed, and it is removed when you sign out, uninstall, or delete your account.

You are asked once by your phone whether to allow notifications. Say no and nothing is sent; you can change your mind later in your phone’s settings.

Four categories, each with its own switch under Settings › Notifications › App. All are on when you join.

• Booking activity — new requests, confirmations, cancellations and reschedules for your business.
• Appointment reminders — before an appointment on your books.
• Payments — when a client pays for an appointment, or a payment fails.
• Payroll and payouts — pay periods due, transfers, and failed bank details.

Who gets which notice depends on their role: a booking request goes to owners and managers, a payout problem to the owner. Turning a category off stops it on every device signed in as you.

Under Settings › Notifications › App: a device switch, plus a switch each for booking activity and appointment reminders, covering updates about your own appointments: request received, confirmed, declined, cancelled, or changed by the salon, and a reminder before it. Off means no push at all; you can still see everything in the app.

The app also sets a local reminder on your phone when a confirmed appointment that is not yet paid begins, so you can pay when you pick up your phone. That reminder is scheduled by the app on the device itself; nothing is sent from our servers for it.

If you would rather have appointment updates by SMS, the text message programme is a separate opt-in.

A LUX Smart Mirror can show a staff member a brief card while they are working at that station — a new booking for them, a client checked in, a payment received. These notices are addressed to the staff member on that station, respect the same category switches plus the mirror-specific preferences under Settings › Notifications › Mirror, are shown for a few seconds, and are never displayed to a client as content of their own. They are not push notifications and involve no third party.

The name of the client or salon, the service, the time, and an amount where relevant — enough to act on, never a card number, a password, or a photo. Apple and Google carry the text of the notification in order to deliver it; we do not use notification content for advertising and we do not send marketing by push.

We keep a record of each notification we sent (recipient, category, time, delivered or not) for troubleshooting, alongside the in-app notification list you can review at any time.

Three layers, any one of which is enough: the switches in the app, the app’s notification permission in your phone’s settings, or uninstalling the app. Deleting your account removes every delivery token immediately.
